Our Winter Intern, Justine, on a special department lunch with author Luvvie Ajayi. Luvvie’s I’m Judging You audiobook is available for pre-order now, and available wherever digital audiobooks are sold September 13, 2016
Last week, Luvvie Ajayi—author of I’m Judging You—was in the studio at Macmillan recording her audiobook, and the audio team was lucky enough to have lunch with her! I read Luvvie’s manuscript early on and thought that it was hilarious and brilliant. She had me laughing out loud after I read the first paragraph about people who take pictures of deceased relatives, pre-coffin. I’m Judging You is somewhat irreverent (just look at the title), but it is downright hilarious and reminded me of Mindy Kaling and Amy Pohler’s audiobooks—specifically how great the audio is because it’s read by the authors themselves.
Getting to meet Luvvie was a real treat, and she was exactly how I’d pictured her. We ordered shrimp salad and pink lemonade because she writes about how much she loves it in her book, and she was absolutely thrilled. Luvvie jokingly talked about how she wished she hadn’t chosen such long words when writing her book because speaking them while recording is much more arduous than reading them in your head. She also showed us pictures of her ide-eye-giving-lollipop, which accompanied her to a speaking engagement at the White House earlier in the week. This lollipop is on the cover of her audiobook, and she carries around these specialty treats to give out to people like business cards. All I can say is that Luvvie is as hilarious in person as she is in her book, and we cannot wait for you to hear and laugh at what she has to say!
